Alongside my own studio work and the RSA’s Frontiers exhibition, 2024 has provided several opportunities to show paintings elsewhere in the UK.
These included Slow Painting, organised through Contemporary British Painting at Studio KIND and the Plough Arts Centre, as well as Fight, Flight or Freeze at Pictorem Gallery in London and The Scottish Show at Panter & Hall.
I particularly enjoy the experience of seeing my paintings in the company of other artists’ work. Sometimes unexpected connections emerge, while on other occasions the differences are just as revealing.
The title Slow Painting seems particularly appropriate for me. Although I would love to work more quickly, my paintings have an unfortunate habit of becoming increasingly complicated the longer I spend with them.
