A launderette might seem a strange place for artistic inspiration, but Robbie Busho admits to reveling in the mundane. His latest exhibition at the Traverse Theatre in the Grassmarket reflects his taste for the ordinary with titles like “Fawn of My Own,” “Follet Portrait,” and “Keeping Brat Amused.”
The 25-year-old postgraduate student at Edinburgh College of Art has built a reputation for painting which shows domestic drama, an area he finds fascinating.
“I’m interested in looking at ordinary life, relationships between people, mostly shown in the everyday things which happen. I love looking at the mundane and making it seem a bit more special through my paintings.”
This is his second show, and after graduating this summer, Robbie hopes to pursue various projects which include traveling and, hopefully, showing some of his work in London.
“Now I’ve got this exhibition going I can concentrate on my postgraduate show. I’ve sold 15 out of the 29 works on display, which is great.”
In the meantime, Robbie is carrying on with his own life, which includes visits to the launderette. “So I use the things I see more in my paintings.”
