Some of these paintings took a considerable time to complete, not least because I was still juggling studio work with my teaching commitments at the University of Edinburgh. Alongside the paintings are examples of other projects, including work for Aberdeen Children’s Theatre, which offered rather different opportunities to think about narrative, scale and the relationship between images and their audiences. Looking back, much of this work helped establish ideas and ways of working that I have continued to develop in subsequent years.
